Musikmesse 2013: SSL Sigma (Video)

Remote controlled analogue mix engine

Although SSL's big news at Musikmesse 2013 was their new live sound console, they haven't forgotten their heritage and were showing off some new studio gear. Sigma is an all-analogue, fully-recallable, remote-controlled   mix engine, with summing capabilities and direct outs.

There are various summing mixers out there but where Sigma gets really clever is the way it deals with automation. Its internal analogue mixer uses teh same MDAC technology found in the SSL Duality console to allow mixer volume automation to be controlled from your DAW. Thanks to its integration with Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase/Nuendo and Sequoia, Sigma represents a substantial step up from conventional summing mixers.

The mixer can also be controlled using a control programme or by using an iOS app.

Sigma has 16 channels which can each be used in mono or stereo, making 32 inputs available at mixdown. It also has two mix busses and outputs for two sets of monitors and headphones.
