Wes Audio to launch the ngSumBox

Summing mixer boasts plug-in control & recall

Wes Audio ngSumBox analogue summing mixer plug-in control

Wes Audio’s ng (or Next Gen) product range has been expanding gradually over the last few years, and now includes a healthy selection of analogue outboard processors that can be controlled and recalled from a DAW plug-in. At the NAMM Show 2026, the company unveiled the latest addition to the family, the ngSumBox

As its name suggests, the new arrival houses an analogue summing mixer, and much like the other offerings in the ng line-up, there’s a lot more on offer than meets the eye. Despite only having a handful of front-panel controls, the ngSumBox has plenty more going on behind the scenes, and comes paired with a companion plug-in that promises to provide those working in the box with a console-like mixing experience.

On the analogue side of things, the unit houses an 18x2 mixer that combines 16 fully controllable summing channels with a pair of additional inputs designed to receive effects returns, submixes and so on. a set of 16 inputs and direct outputs are provided by four DB25 connectors, while 12 quarter-inch TRS sockets take care of insert points, the additional inputs and the main monitor outputs; the main monitor outputs are also available on a pair of XLR connectors.

Plug-In Control

Wes Audio ngSumBox plug-inThe ngSumBox can be controlled, automated and recalled from a DAW plug-in, which will also communicate with HUI and MC control surfaces.

The bulk of the ngSumBox’s functionality is provided by Wes Audio’s plug-in, which communicates with the device via USB or Ethernet. Users are presented with a virtual mixer that offers direct control over each of the unit’s 16 channels, with a link setting making it possible to pair channels up and process stereo sources. Along with trim, mute, solo and level controls, the mixer offers LCR panning and includes a variable THD control that makes it possible to add some subtle analogue saturation on a per-channel basis. Helpfully, the plug-in can also be operated from a HUI- or MC-based control surface.

Further processing and fine-tuning can then be carried out from the Master section. First up is a Width control that can be used to enhance the stereo image — the processing takes place in the analogue domain, and relies on a proprietary circuit that uses a mixture of Mid-Side processing and saturation. Next is an Output level control, which is followed by an Iron button that allows users to choose between electronically balanced and transformer-balanced output stages; the former offers a cleaner, modern sound, while the latter provides some subtle, vintage-inspired character that can be adjusted using an Iron Pad control. Finally, a pair of insert points allow external processors to be placed in the signal chain, and a pair of meters replicate the hardware’s front-panel VU meter.
