Orchestral Tools release Sinoid

Latest addition to experimental Fabrik series

Orchestral Tools Sinoid Fabrik series experimental sound design orchestral sample library virtual instrument

Orchestral Tools have announced the release of Sinoid, the third instalment in their Fabrik series of experimental sample libraries. Built around a collection of real sampled instruments, basic sine waves captured from a signal generator and a selection of combined patches which have been subjected to a range of effects and processing techniques, the library offers a variety of playable sounds that the company say “explore the outer limits of experimental textures”.

Sinoid contains samples of a range of instruments including bass clarinet, bass flute, alto flute, bass and tenor ocarinas, vibraphone, glockenspiel and singing bowls, all of which have been captured performing a variety of articulations. The samples are contained within an Origins folder, along with the signal generator recordings.

A Mutations folder then offers 23 patches which have been created by running the original recordings through a selection of modular analogue processors, applying varying levels of processing to create everything from subtly enhanced sounds to extremely distorted and overdriven tones. Each of the patches is equipped with two differing layers, with users able to blend between them to control the intensity of the effects using their controller keyboard’s mod wheel.

Take a look at the video below to see and hear the library in action.

“The basis of the Fabrik series is to bring the scope and playability of our orchestral libraries to brand new instruments drawn from electronic and experimental elements. The combination of our chosen instrumentation for Sinoid combined with the complex processing is immediately evocative and inspiring while still retaining that crucial human element that’s vital to composition. We hope that composers and sound designers find it as unique and inspiring as we do!” - Hendrik Schwarzer, Orchestral Tools CEO
