Along with their selection of paid-for sample libraries and software instruments, Rigid Audio also offer some free instruments that are available to users of Native Instruments’ Kontakt sampler platform. Following on from their recent piano release, the company have announced the launch of their next freebie, Shimmer Strings.
Much like Rigid Grand, Shimmer Strings features a simple, stripped-back GUI that offers just a pair of adjustable parameters. The library has been built around a collection of multi-sampled violins performing sustained bowed notes, and features a Blend contro that allows users to mix in an additional pitch-shifted ‘Shimmer’ layer. A second slider offers control over a built-in reverb, and with the exception of the mod wheel being assigned to volume duties, that’s it!
You can check out the video below to hear Shimmer Strings in action.
Compatibility
Shimmer Strings runs in Native Instruments Kontakt version 6.8.0 and above, or later, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
Availability
Shimmer Strings is available now, and is free to download. It does, however, require the full version of Kontakt, and is not compatible with the free Kontakt Player version.
