SOS July 2014 is now available!

Emerson Moog, Andy Wallace, The Horrors and loads of reviews!

Adorning the front cover this month is Keith Emerson’s gargantuan Moog Modular. It is the stuff of synthesizer legend, and we bring you the full story of an incredible project, undertaken by Moog Music, to perfectly recreate this enormously complicated instrument.

In our Inside Track feature we talk mixing with pioneering rock and metal producer, engineer and mixer, Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Slayer, Jeff Buckley).

We review Fender’s Passport Studio, a collaboration with Focal that brings the portable suitcase-speaker concept to studio monitors; the Base control surface from Livid instruments; Korg’s Taktile range of controller keyboards and the SE Electronics SE5 pencil mics. We also check out SoundToys’ MicroShift, the RME MADIface XT & USB interfaces, Allen & Heath’s MixWizard WZ4 14:4:2, WaveDNA Liquid Rhythm, and more gear and software from Tech 21, Samson, ART, TC Helicon, Presonus, Tube-Tech, Casio, Waves, Grace Design, MakeMusic, Native Instruments and many more.

In the Live Sound section we look at mixing front-of-house sound with a UAD audio interface, meanwhile in our interview we talk to UK band, The Horrors and discuss their experimental approach to studio recording.

On top of all that, we have regulars such as The Mix Review (Pharrell, DJ Snake, John Legend, Dire Straits), DAW workshops, Notes From The Deadline, Studio File and Spotlight, which this month rounds up microphone accessories.
