Summer NAMM: Joemeek Floor Q (Video)

Optical Compressor Guitar Pedal
It's fair to say that Joemeek's optical compressor circuitry has been well tested, having been fitted into many of their products over the past decade or so. The latest news from the company is that they've released a version of the optical compressor in a guitar pedal format.

It's called the Floor Q, and it has all the controls you'd expect for changing the characteristics of the compressor. It's a guitar pedal, so it has a single input and a single output on quarter-inch jack, and it takes its input from an external power supply. Cleverly, it can accept AC or DC, at anywhere between nine and 18 volts, so if you forget to bring the included power supply to a gig, you can plug in almost any other guitar pedal power supply and make it work. It can't accept batteries, however.

As expected, there's a chunky bypass switch on the top face of the Floor Q. This operates after the gain stage, so you can use the device to add up to 18dB of gain without engaging the compressor circuit.

It will be shipping later this year, costing $199 in the USA. Check out the video below for more.
