Tascam have revealed an updated version of their flagship two-channel master recorder and A-D / D-A converter unit. Designed for recording, mastering, archiving and monitoring duties, the DA-3000SD builds on the success of its predecessor, offering high-quality recording in both PCM and DSD formats.
The device occupies just 1U of rack space, and offers both balanced and unbalanced line-level connectivity along with AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital I/O. The power section utilises separate transformer windings for the analogue and digital circuitry, and a TCXO (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator) helps the unit’s clock generator to achieve a processing accuracy of ±1ppm with no jitter.
The DA-3000SD is capable of capturing PCM audio at sample rates up to 192kHz, and supports DSD at rates of 2.8 and 5.6 MHz. For those who need to work in formats above and beyond stereo, it’s possible to cascade up to eight units to create a 16-channel recording system.
The A-D stage is taken care of by a pair of pair of galvanically isolated BurrBrown converters, while the D-A section employs a high-quality dual-monaural circuit configuration designed to minimise interference between channels. There’s also a dedicated volume control that allows for precise monitoring control directly from the unit.
