Tascam announce FR-AV2 field recorder

Two-channel, 32-bit floating point digital recorder

Tascam FR-AV2 Field Recorder

Tascam have announced the launch of the FR-AV2, a compact, high-resolution two-channel field recorder designed for professional recording in small to mid-size film productions, wedding videography, and video journalism. Despite its size, the FR-AV2 offers features typically found in much larger devices.

The FR-AV2 houses two analogue-to-digital converters and 32-bit floating point resolution, which provide an extended dynamic range and prevent audio clipping. This combination can record at up to 192 kHz. Tascam’s Ultra HDDA preamps further enhance the clarity and resolution of the recordings.

Additionally, the FR-AV2 is Bluetooth-enabled for monitoring via the optional AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter, allowing users to check audio quality wirelessly through Bluetooth headphones. The recorder also includes advanced timecode features, enabling synchronisation between the FR-AV2 and cameras or other devices. It can generate and receive timecode, making it easy for videographers to sync high-quality audio with video footage. The optional Bluetooth adapter supports wireless timecode sync with Atomos UltraSync Blue devices, and remote control of up to five Tascam units is possible via the Tascam Recorder Connect app on iOS or Android.

Packing a two-inch colour LCD display into this small device adds to its user-friendly interface, while the device can also serve as a USB audio interface, offering two inputs and outputs via USB-C when connected to iOS, Mac or Windows devices.

Price & Availability

The Tascam FR-AV2 is currently only available for pre-order, priced at $399£369.
