Warm Audio have gained an enthusiastic following in recent years with their affordable recreations of classic studio hardware, including the WA-2A, WA76 and the EQP-WA. Now, the company have also announced a new four-channel preamp design: the WA-412. Inspired by the classic API 312 four-channel mic preamp and DI, Warm Audio have worked closely with US-based Altran Transformers to produce input and output parts that, it’s claimed, sonically match the classic American consoles of yesteryear.
In addition to all the features one might expect in a 312-style mic pre, the WA-412 adds an input impedance selector and output level knob for controlling gain and sculpting tone through precisely controlled overdrive. The WA-412 also features Warm’s own new reproduction of the classic 2520 discrete op-amp. The WA-412 will ship by the end of the year with an expected US street price of $1199.
