Desktop drum kit unveiled
Musical instrument giants Yamaha have been producing full-size electronic drum kits for some time now (including their flagship DTXtreme IIs kit) and have decided to expand the range with a smaller, DJ friendly table-top kit. The Yamaha DTX Multi 12 looks more like an electric hob than a drum kit, but houses 12 velocity-sensitive drum pads and a sound module in a compact, low-profile unit.

The on-board sound module draws its voices from the Yamaha Motif synthesiser, and includes 1200 patches. The module also allows the user to upload their own sounds to the built-in 64Mb memory and assign samples or patterns to pads, making the unit useful for triggering both loops and sounds when performing live. Up to 200 drum setups can be stored in the unit for easy recall on stage, and the unit can be connected to a computer via a USB port for simple management of samples and setups.
The Yamaha DTX Multi 12 will be available from December 2009 at a cost of £685.
