Focusrite bring the Liquid Channel to your DAW

Liquid Mix boasts 32 simultaneous convolution plug-ins
Focusrite’s latest implementation of their convolution processing is to be released in a buss-powered Firewire unit, which provides 32 channels of compression and EQ simultaneously at 48kHz, 16 at 96kHz and eight at 192kHz. The effects are used like standard VST, Audio Units or RTAS plug-ins and are controlled either by software or the Liquid Mix hardware. The smart-looking unit has a display screen, ample metering and an array of function buttons and rotary controls. An optional DSP expansion card can be fitted to increase the maximum plug-in count at higher sample rates.

The Liquid Mix ships with 40 compressor and 20 EQ models (called Replicas) and allows user to construct hybrid ‘super EQs’ — seven-band EQs assembled from different sections of the various classic EQ models. As with the Liquid Channel, an expanding on-line library of free downloads will allow users to add further Replicas as time goes on.

A Mac-compatible version of the Liquid Mix is scheduled for release in the next few months, with a PC version to follow later in the year. The system is expected to cost £499.
