Focusrite have announced the expansion of the fourth generation of their Scarlett range of audio interfaces with the launch of three new models: the Scarlett 16i16, 18i16, and 18i20.
The fourth generation of Scarlett interfaces comes with significant upgrades including improved audio specifications, advanced creative tools and features designed for the project studio. Each new model includes additional analogue inputs and outputs, front-panel monitor switching and new custom-designed headphone amps. Notably, the Scarlett 18i20 also includes a built-in talkback microphone, making it well-suited for use in professional recording environments.
All three interfaces boast a dynamic range of 122dB, achieved through the use of Focusrite’s high-quality RedNet converters. They also feature new remote-controlled preamps offering up to 69dB of gain, ensuring optimal performance with a variety of microphones. The redesigned Air mode models the sound of legendary Focusrite consoles, and the introduction of the analogue Presence and DSP-based Harmonic Drive functions can add richness to recordings.
User-friendly features include Auto Gain and Clip Safe modes, which can accommodate up to eight channels at once, automatically adjusting gain levels to avoid clipping. The Dynamic Gain Halos have also been upgraded to display output as well as input metering. The Scarlett range continues to support complex project studio requirements, providing A/B speaker switching, MIDI connectivity and S/PDIF and ADAT options for digital I/O.
Each model is equipped with the Focusrite Control 2 software, which can handle levels, independent outputs, flexible routing and monitoring mixes. In addition to the desktop application, the iOS and Android Focusrite Control 2 apps enable engineers and performers to adjust monitor mixes and mic preamp gains while away from the computer. The Easy Start tool helps users quickly connect and begin recording. Additionally, all interfaces come bundled with popular software including Ableton Live Lite and three months of Pro Tools Artist.
