In their latest collaboration with Dawesome, Tracktion have created an instrument which they say offers a radial new take on wavetable synthesis and brings back the excitement that producers have been craving since the early days of Serum and PPG.
The companies say that their latest offering, Kontrast, has been designed with speed and ease of use in mind, and aims to deliver a playful and inspiring instrument that helps users to design new sounds with minimal fuss. Where it differs from other wavetable-based synths is the way in which it plays back wavetables: rather than ‘slicing’ them in a straight line, Kontrast instead allows users to select a wide range of different shapes that range from curves, circles and spirals to “chaotic squiggles”. It also includes some more traditional features, with analogue-style filters joined by a collection of onboard effects, and supports MPE, providing users with compatible controllers with plenty of expressive control.

Compatibility
Kontrast is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available.

Kontrast is available now, and is currently (5 October 2025) being offered at an introductory price of $€89, reduced from its full cost of $€149. There’s also a generously timed 90-day trial version available.
