New reverb plug-ins are relatively common these days, but de-reverbs are another matter altogether. Japanese developers TAC Sytstems have released new audio suite plug-in for Pro Tools that uses detection algorithms to eliminate reverb tails from audio. NML RevCon-RR is intended to be used in post production, removing room noise from less than ideal recordings, but could easily find users outside of the video world, cleaning up single instrument tracks and vocals that have been recorded in untreated locations. The plug-in can also be calibrated to separate background noise from the primary signal, remixing a certain amount of the noise back into the output audio and creating a natural result. A 14day trial can be downloaded from the TAC website, and the full version costs around $1280.
