Arturia unveil KeyStep Pro Chroma

Controller gets a new finish & updated firmware

Arturia KeyStep Pro Chroma MIDI controller keyboard

Arturia have announced the launch of the KeyStep Pro Chroma, an updated version of their KeyStep Pro MIDI controller keyboard that boasts a stylish new dark grey finish with blue LEDs and upgraded knob caps. Alongside the release of the new version, the company have also delivered a firmware update which introduces a range of new features requested by users.

New Design

The KeyStep Pro Chroma retains all of the powerful sequencing features of the original unit, with a wealth of connectivity options offering in-depth control over both software and hardware instruments — the four independent polyphonic sequencer tracks and 24-part drum sequencer remain, as does the collection of MIDI, CV and USB I/O.

Where the new version differs from the original is the finish, with the device sporting a new dark casing along with upgraded LEDs and a new knob design. Additionally, users are now able to customise the colours of the controllers buttons on a per-track basis.

Firmware Update

Functionality has also been enhanced thanks to the introduction of firmware version 2.5, which Arturia have developed in response to feature requests from existing KeyStep Pro users. Program Changes can now be sent on a per-pattern and per-MIDI track basis, and a new Fixed Velocity function allows users to determine a fixed velocity value for pressed keys and triggered notes that can be controlled using the Velocity encoder.

Track settings such as MIDI I/O, Fixed Velocity and Program Change can now be accessed quickly by pressing Shift and a track number (they also remain available via the Utility menu), and the Transpose button can now be configured to toggle Transpose Mode on when pressed.
