Arturia's Pigments evolves to version 6

New Modal engine, filters and advanced modulation

Arturia Pigments 6

Arturia’s Pigments 6 continues to push the boundaries of sound design, with the latest update introducing a new Modal engine, enhanced filtering options, expanded modulation tools and overall refinements.

The new Modal engine brings physically modelled synthesis into Pigments' hybrid architecture. This allows for the creation of sounds based on the behaviour of real-world resonating structures, from plucked strings to evolving harmonic textures. The Modal engine offers both collision and friction exciters, providing a vast range of timbral possibilities, whether delicate percussive strikes or through to sustained resonant tones.

Complementing this new synthesis method are three additional filters. The Multimode V2 filter refines classic analogue-style filtering with improved response and character. The Cluster filter introduces stacked, detuned filtering for complex, shifting textures. Finally, the LoFi filter adds vintage-style degradation, including gritty digital aliasing effects.

A new vocoder effect further extends Pigments' processing capabilities, allowing users to integrate vocal synthesis into their patches. Whether using external audio input or internal signal processing, the vocoder enables everything from robotic voices to spectral, formant-rich textures. Users can tweak the effect further via adjustments to bandwidth, band count and modulation sources.

The modulation system has also been upgraded, offering four new modulators. The Voice Modulator introduces per-note modulation variations, mimicking the organic inconsistencies of analogue circuits. A new Envelope Follower enables audio-reactive modulation, dynamically shaping parameters based on the amplitude of an audio signal. Additional refinements to the Function V2 editor allow for more intricate, sculpted modulation curves.

Pigments’ Granular engine has received notable improvements, now allowing real-time scanning through samples mid-playback, randomised grain distribution per note and continuous adjustment of grain size. These updates provide even more flexibility for creating evolving textures and atmospheric effects.

Beyond synthesis and modulation, the latest update introduces UX/UI enhancements designed to improve workflow efficiency. The updated Quick Edit V2 system simplifies modulation assignments with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. A redesigned file browser streamlines sound management, while a refreshed light theme provides a cleaner and more comfortable visual experience.
