The latest addition to The Crow Hill Company’s rotating selection of free instruments has arrived, delivering a selection of string sounds that are described as “unrefined, and fully adulterated through a knackered cassette tape with just a pinch of wobble”.
Descriptively named Lo-Fi Strings, the new arrival to the series offers a sound that contrasts the company’s previous string-based releases, offering a more nostalgic sonic palette thanks to the use of a vintage cassette deck. The library embraces all of the quirks that come with the format: subtle compression and saturation, the pitch drifts caused by flutter and wow, occasional drop-outs and a subtle hiss.
Take a look at the walkthrough video below to hear it in action.
As with all of the Vaults releases, Lo-Fi Strings will remain free to download until it ‘falls out’ of rotation.
