Milan-based Molok Studios is a prominent post-production company that specialise in multilingual game, film and digital localisation projects. They’ve recently built a new premises, and knowing that Dolby Atmos is now available on Sony and Microsoft’s latest gaming console systems, they decided to opt for 7.1.4 Genelec systems in two of their control rooms.
The move makes the facility the first gaming studio in Italy to be equipped with an Atmos setup, and has transformed the way they approach projects, enabling them to create immersive experiences that accurately translate across a wide range of end-user playback systems.
The studio’s CEO, Andrea De Cunto, says that Genelec monitors have been a mainstay in Molok’s work, starting with the ultra-compact 8010 nearfield models. With the new installation complete, the two control rooms now boast a Smart Active Monitoring rig comprising 8351s in the L-C-R positions, with 8340s handling both surround and height duties and a 7380 subwoofer taking care of the low end.
"With PS5 and other consoles adopting Atmos and many game titles supporting the format, Molok is well-prepared to meet new standards. We’ve had brilliant vertical growth in the last few years and we only see that increasing, as we start to really utilise Dolby and see its full capability. Thanks to the new studios, it feels like we’re at the right place, at the right time." - Andrea De Cunto, CEO, Molok Studios
With the immersive rooms up and running, Molok say that they are looking to expand their Atmos mixing beyond gaming and into music and home entertainment.
