The latest expansion for IK Multimedia’s TONEX amp and effects modelling platform has arrived, delivering a set of four new overdrive effects that cover a wide variety of musical styles. TONEX Boutique Overdrives features a total of 50 Tone Models based on a JHS Morning Glory V4, a Catalinbread Tribute, a Westminster Effects 1689 V2 and an EarthQuaker Devices Life.
Created using the IK’s AI Machine Modeling process, the collection promises to accurately recreate the character of each of the classic pedals. All four models have been captured using a range of different settings, resulting in a broad selection of tones that range from subtle clean boosts to edge-of-breakup sounds.
The Pedals
- JHS Morning Glory V4 (15 Tone Models): The JHS Morning Glory V4 is well known for its ability to maintain the natural character of a guitar and amp while adding dynamic overdrive, and is a go-to choice for players who want an organic, uncoloured boost. IK Multimedia have captured multiple settings, including its signature low-gain, edge-of-breakup sounds, which they say are perfect for blues, indie and classic rock tones, and will serve as ‘always-on’ favourite overdrives for stacking or opening up the sound of an amp.
- Catalinbread Tribute (10 Tone Models): The Catalinbread Tribute was also captured at settings ranging from boosted cleans to crunchy tones that provide some additional low-mid energy. Known for its versatility, the pedal is capable of producing everything from smooth, transparent overdrives to more aggressive, harmonically rich sounds, and is said to be ideal for players seeking a responsive drive to push their amp.
- Westminster Effects 1689 V2 (15 Tone Models): The Westminster Effects 1689 V2 builds on the classic Ibanez Tube Screamer, delivering a bold, unapologetic sound. Refined for the modern player, it offers tones ranging from gritty breakup to aggressive saturation. The company have modelled the 1689's symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping modes, allowing users to switch between dynamic, harmonically complex sounds and smoother, more balanced distortion.
- EarthQuaker Devices Life Pedal (10 Tone Models) : Created in collaboration with the band Sunn O))), the EarthQuaker Devices Life Pedal is renowned for producing massive, earth-shaking tones that push the boundaries of heavy and experimental music. Ten distinct settings were captured, offering a wide range of sonic destruction that IK say is perfect for doom, stoner rock and experimental soundscapes.

Compatibility
TONEX Boutique Overdrives is compatible with all versions of IK Multimedia’s TONEX PC and Mac applications, including the free TONEX CS, and also work in AmpliTube 5. They can also be used as part of a live rig with the company’s hardware TONEX pedals.

Boutique Overdrives Signature Collection is available now, priced at $€69.99. To coincide with the release, IK Multimedia are offering a range of special TONEX pedal and collection bundles. From 3 September through 5 November 2024, new purchases of TONEX ONE will include Boutique Overdrives, while every purchase of a TONEX Pedal will come with Boutique Overdrives and ODS Legends.
