Klevgrand have announced the release of a major update for their innovative Audio Model-based software synthesizer, Tomofon. With the release of v1.2, the instrument gains MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) support, body resonance simulation, new filter options and a selection of other enhancements aimed at improving user experience.
The introduction of MPE support means that Tomofon is now able to respond to polyphonic MIDI pitch-bend and CC messages — meaning that players are able to trigger such effects on a per-note basis rather than across all played notes — allowing for greater expressive playing possibilities.
Klevgrand have also added the ability to assign a ‘Body’ to each of the instrument’s patches, a feature which enhances the realism of acoustic models by simulating the characteristics of various resonant spaces. A selection of different options are provided, ranging from large boxes to metallic materials.
Responding to requests from users, Tomofon’s filter section has been expanded, with new high- and band-pass filter types added to the existing low-pass option. Additionally, it is now possible to switch the filter between two different slope options of 12 and 24dB/octave.
Some operational changes are also included in the update, with the instrument now supporting the import of .tun files, allowing those wishing to explore different musical scale and tuning options to utilise custom tunings in their productions. Other improvements include new zoom and scroll functions in the Audio Model editor to make it easier to work with files that contain a large number of waves, and a visual update to the Curve tool, which now presents users with a graphical representation of the Audio Model in the background for more intuitive editing.
Loney Tunes Extension Pack
Alongside the v1.2 update, Klevgrand have also released the latest Audio Model pack, the Loney Tunes Extension Pack. The expansion delivers a selection of Audio Models based on the instruments and sounds used in the music of Emil Svanängen (also known as Loney Dear) including flute, clarinet, violin, piano and saxophone, as well as instruments based on a vintage analogue drum machine and field recordings made on construction sites.
