Klevgrand launch Revolv reverb plug-in

Impulse response reverb captures unusual locations

Klevgrand Revolv impulse response reverb historical locations sound design

Described as a time machine for your audio, Klevgrand’s latest plug-in takes an interesting approach to reverb, allowing users to place their recordings in a range of unusual locations. Created using a collection of meticulously recorded impulse responses, Revolv captures everything from Medieval ruins to a serene Swedish forest.

Klevgrand have created the plug-in alongside Oscar Björk, a sound designer whose Echoes of Our Time project saw set out across Sweden to capture impulse responses from a diverse selection of historical and modern locations. The company say that his passion for preserving the soul and sound of these locations has resulted in an extraordinary collection of impulse responses that are a testament to his painstaking efforts and deep appreciation for Sweden's acoustic heritage.

“With the release of Klevgrand’s Revolv, the final piece of this ambitious project has fallen into place. I hope that the locations' recorded responses will inspire new creative journeys, generating fresh ideas in many different audio contexts. Revolv’s simplicity and intuitive workflow sparks creativity, allowing you to focus on your vision without technical distractions, while also offering deep insights into the project’s locations and their history." Oscar Björk

Revolv features an innovative GUI design based around Location and Time wheels and a loupe selector. Changing between spaces is as simple as moving the the selector around the wheels, and each location is equipped with a detailed view that provides information about the site of the recording, and provides the ability to customise its sound. Decay, pre-delay and width parameters are available, along with a selection of microphone choices and placement options.

The plug-in achieves its effect purely from the use of impulse responses, and the company are keen to point out that they have been recorded, curated and processed without the use of any AI-based processes. There are over 100 IRs included, each of which provides a genuine audio snapshot of the location’s natural acoustics. Klevgrand say that as well as being a great choice for musicians in search of a creative reverb, Revolv also serves as a valuable tool for those working in fields such as film and video games, where convincing acoustic space replication is crucial.

“The purpose of Revolv is to provide access to these unique and often restricted locations. We're excited to invite everybody to experience the acoustics of our nook of the world and its cultural history, and we can't wait to see the creative projects that come from it.” - Tobias Engström, CEO and Co-Founder, Klevgrand
