Nembrini Audio have announced the release of Bass Driver, a multi-band overdrive and amp simulator plug-in inspired by Tech 21’s SansAmp Bass Driver DI. The company say that this latest offering extends the possibilities offered by the original hardware device, and provides users with the ability to sculpt everything from vintage valve-inspired tones through to bright and aggressive modern distortion sounds.

The plug-in’s main display offers Low, Mid, and High bands, each equipped with their own dedicated Gain, Blend, Comp, and Level controls, whilst a pair of X Over knobs allow users to set the crossover points between the three bands. An EQ section offers Bass Mid and Treble controls with adjustable centre frequencies and a fixed Presence dial, and yet more tonal adjustment is then provided by a nine-band graphic EQ.

Cabinets & Impulses

In the Cabinet display, users are able to choose from four different bass guitar cabinet emulations, as well as four microphone emulations that can be fine-tuned using Position and Distance parameters.

There is also an additional parallel DI signal available, which can be processed with a console-style compressor, whilst an Impulses section allows users to load up to two third-party impulse responses, which can be blended with the DI signal using the plug-in’s built-in mixer controls.

Each of these views also provides access to a Bass Enhancer section, which has been influenced by Little Labs’ Voice of God effect, and a Noise Gate function with adjustable Threshold and Range parameters.

Compatibility

Bass Driver is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.9 and higher. It is available in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It is authorised via iLok, although no physical dongle is required.

Pricing & Availability

Bass Driver is available now, and is currently (11 January 2023) being offered at an introductory price of $39.99, reduced from its full cost of $137.
