Sampleson have announced their first foray into the world of AI-powered plug-ins with rePEDAL, an experimental project that allows users to generate random overdrive pedal emulations with a single click. It’s currently in the beta phase, and is being offered as a free download for all users.
The company say that the plug-in has been designed to explore the creative potential of neural networks in sound design, and aims to move beyond the replication of hardware devices. A Remake icon in the GUI makes it possible to randomise the structure of the neural network, generating a new, random overdrive pedal model with a single click. Each generated sound can be fine-tuned using Drive and Post Gain controls, and there’s also a built-in gate equipped with a threshold control. Once users arrive at a sound they’re happy with, they can save it for later recall.
Sampleson say that they are welcoming feedback from those who give the plug-in a try.

rePEDAL is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.7 and later. VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available.
