Total Workstation Rack

IK Multimedia & Muse Research team up
In recent years, Muse Research have teamed up with various different software developers to deliver their Receptor stand-alone VST plug-in player pre-installed with top-notch software. So far, there have been collaborations with Native Instruments, spawning the Receptor Komplete, and Fxpansion, with whom Muse released the BFD Turbo Receptor.

The latest incarnation of the Receptor is the Total Workstation Rack, a version that comes complete with IK Multimedia’s Sampletank 2.5, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonic, SampleMoog and SampleTron VST instruments. In terms of hardware specification, there’s no difference between this and a standard Receptor, and there’s even space to install further virtual instruments on to the hard drive.

The collaborating companies say that the new product has pretty much every instrument you need, or at least more than enough to get started with, including acoustic and electric pianos, strings, brass, winds, vocals, organs, percussion, drums, basses, guitars and synths. These instruments, coupled with the proprietary low-latency drivers running on the Receptor, make one heck of a sound module!

The benefits of having all your VST instruments in a 2U rackmountable device are obvious for the stage user, but the Receptor is just as handy in the studio. Using Muse’s UniWire technology, you can connect it to your DAW rig, and use it to host plug-ins, without putting additional strain on the main computer’s CPU.

The Total Workstation Rack costs £1468 including VAT, and can be purchased from the web sites of both IK Multimedia and Muse Research.
