Xaoc Devices say that you can never have too many VCAs, and as such, they’ve decided to add another to their growing collection of Eurorack modules. Designed to provide a clean-sounding alternative to their existing Tallin module, the Lublin boasts a high-quality signal path and includes innovative pinging inputs that allow users to mimic the natural decay characteristics of plucked and struck instruments.
The new module takes a two-in-one approach, housing a pair of voltage-controlled amplifiers that each boast an identical set of parameters — including the additional pinging inputs. The module is capable of reducing gain while retaining the incoming signal’s full frequency bandwidth, something which the company say make it a perfect for dealing with harmonically rich signals, such as those generated by their Odessa additive VCO module.
Lublin’s envelope benefits from a wide operational range, and offers three selectable responses: Natural, Shortened and Prolonged, allowing it to create an array of different decay characteristics. As such, it’s capable of producing everything from bongo-like tones to fat, compressed kick drums. The built-in gain control circuit has been designed to prevent distortion, even when using excessive levels of amplification. The module is also DC-coupled, meaning it can be used to process CV as well as audio signals.
