Strymon unveil PCH stereo DI box

Pedalboard-focused DI features built-in headphone amp

Strymon PCH stereo DI box guitar keyboard synth effects pedalboard

Strymon are a big name in the world of guitar pedals, and in recent years they’ve added a selection of power supplies to their hardware line-up, as well as bringing their renowned effects algorithms to DAW users with plug-in versions of some of their most popular offerings. Their latest release falls into the hardware category, and takes the form of a stereo DI box that’s been optimised for pedalboards and keyboard/synth rigs.

The PCH has been designed as a solution for players who regularly run their setup directly to a front-of-house console, audio interface or flat-response speaker system. Seeing as it’s aimed primarily at pedal users, it runs from a standard 9V DC supply, but steps the internal voltage up to 24V to provide plenty of headroom for lively signal levels. Stereo inputs are provided on a pair of quarter-inch TS sockets, while its main output appears on a pair of XLR connectors that are joined by a ground-lift switch and a switch for toggling between mic and line-level signals.

Helpfully, a second pair of quarter-inch TS sockets provide stereo Thru outputs that can be used to pass the signal on to an amplifier or other devices. This makes it possible to insert the device in a pedalboard’s signal chain and have a convenient way to feed a PA or full-range system instead of, or as well as a traditional amp setup. Although the device is stereo-capable, its Thru connections are joined by a Sum switch that offers a couple of options for working in mono. a mono input can be passed to both outputs, and there’s also the option of summing a stereo input to a single mono output — the XLR outputs are unaffected by the summing options. Finally, the PCH also boasts a high-quality onboard headphone amp that lets users audition its output.
