IK Multimedia’s modelling technology has played a part in a huge range of the company’s software, capturing the sound of everything from acoustic instruments to guitar amps and studio effects processors. Their latest project heads in a slightly different direction, and claims to deliver natural-sounding vocal performances that they say are indistinguishable from those captured during live recording sessions.
Voice Models
Available as a DAW plug-in and a standalone application, ReSing uses AI-based technology to analyse rough vocal takes and replace their tone and pronunciation features with those of high-quality AI voice models of real artists. Users are then provided with control over the sound of the results, and can adjust the generated vocal’s energy and tone, as well as blending two models together to create new, hybrid voices. There’s also a set of built-in processing tools that make it possible to apply dynamics processing, EQ, reverb and pitch-correction without leaving ReSing.
IK Multimedia are keen to point out that the voice models included in their library have been ethically sourced from real artists, all of whom have signed “clear and transparent agreements that ensure their contributions are acknowledged and protected”. Unlike other voice-replacement software, ReSign is said to be the first tool of its kind that allows users to create custom models using local processing on their own computer, with the results made available within the software’s browser system, and protected against unauthorised use outside of ReSing.
Despite its focus, ReSign isn’t designed exclusively for vocals. It’s also capable of replacing instrument sounds, which are subject to the same fine-tuning tools and offer the ability to carry out tasks such as transposition, key changes, instrument layering and more.
There are three versions available: ReSing Free, ReSing and ReSing MAX, each of which are supplied with an increasing number of voice and instrument models — MAX includes 25 of each, and the company say that more will be added in the future.
