e-instruments launch Velvet Guitars

Warm, emotive and atmospheric guitar sounds

e-instruments Velvet Guitars virtual instrument sample library

The latest addition to the e-instruments range introduces a new virtual guitar instrument that been designed to explore a range of warm, emotive and atmospheric guitar sounds.

Velvet Guitars is said to cover everything from gentle sustains to imaginative articulations including bowed strings, shimmering harmonics, reversed swells, drifting feedback, and unconventional performances using tools such as violin bows, coins and even toothbrushes! It has been with immediate playability in mind, and features a streamlined interface that avoids key switching, allowing users to focus instead on expression.

Sustains, mutes, chords, swells, harmonics, feedback, slides, bowed textures and evolving soundscapes are all readily available, with the mod wheel serving as a central expressive control for blending articulations and shaping movement in real time.

What’s Included?

Velvet Guitars has been built around five distinctive instruments:

  • Velvet Guitar: A classic semi-hollow guitar, finger-played with subtle vibrato
  • Mellow Baritone: A semi-hollow baritone with a thick, woody tone, played with a pick
  • Shimmer Guitar: A 60s-style solid-body offset with floating tremolo and unmistakable shimmer
  • Semi Hollow: A non-traditional jazz guitar with a rounded, expressive sound
  • Amped Acoustic: A vintage acoustic recorded via magnetic pickup and routed through the same amps as the electrics.

All of the instruments were played through a pair of sought-after vintage amps and captured using a high-quality signal path. The team employed Shure SM57 and Royer R-121 microphones feeding Rupert Neve Designs Shelford Channel preamps, and each take has been carefully phase aligned and balanced to deliver a full, natural cabinet sound. Real spring reverb signals have been recorded multiple times from both amps with both dry and wet variations, and the instrument also includes a range of tremolo effects — some modelled on the original amplifiers, and others based on popular pedals.

Compatibility

Velvet Guitars runs in Native Instruments Kontakt or Kontakt Player versions 8.5.1 or higher, which are supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 13 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
