British guitar pedal manufacturer Origin Effects have been making high-quality guitar and bass effects since 2012, and have a range of compression, overdrive and modulation pedals available. Their latest offering, the Halcyon Green Overdrive, has been inspired by a classic pedal that has become a firm favourite amongst guitarists the world over, the Ibanez Tube Screamer.
The Halcyon Green Overdrive features the company’s new Adaptive Circuitry, which allows the pedal's mid-forward voicing to fade away as it cleans up, restoring the full frequency range of the clean tone, and helping to avoid the “thinning” of tone experienced when rolling off the guitar's volume whilst using an original Tube Screamer. The Adapt switch offers two different options for the circuitry, each providing a different amount of roll-off, as well as the ability to bypass it entirely.
Despite the pedal’s simplicity, Origin Effects say that there is still a “generous helping of tweakability” on offer. A Dry level control is provided to blend the dry guitar signal with the overdrive, or to remove it entirely, and a second switch on the front panel allows users to choose between two different voicing options. The first option, 808, offers the classic mid-boost of the original pedal, whilst a second MOD position offers a brighter and more focused presence peak.
We’re looking forward to getting our hands on the Halcyon Green Overdrive here at Sound On Sound, with a review in the works for a future issue of the magazine. Meanwhile, take a look at the video below to see and hear the pedal in action.
The Halcyon Green Overdrive is available now from Origin Effects dealers worldwide, priced at $299£239 including VAT.
