Output launch Platform, a studio desk for musicians

Affordable studio furniture aimed at musicians and producers

Output Inc. have rapidly made a name for themselves as makers of innovative and slick Kontakt instruments such as Analog Strings, Exhale, and REV. That’s why their latest product, Platform, is such a surprise. It’s a desk. Not a mixing desk, but an eye-catching piece of studio furniture for musicians.

The company discovered a shortfall in the studio furniture market for well-designed, functional, and affordable desks that did not sacrifice style. Until now, the choice was (more-or-less) between hacking together bits from IKEA for a low-cost option or going the whole hog and buying something a lot more expensive from a dedicated studio furniture company. Platform aims to bridge that gap.

CEO and Founder, Gregg Lehrman notes; “Our goal with Output is to help musicians, producers, and composers make music. Every musician wants a great desk at the center of their studio and there just weren’t any like Platform. Most studio desks are either very cheap and flimsy or cost thousands of dollars. So we set out to build a beautiful piece of furniture that would inspire our customers to be creative. A ton of thought went into the design and craftsmanship, from speaker height to cable management to the keyboard tray. We’re really proud of Platform.”

Crafted by the team at Output, led by Vice President of Hardware, J.C. Sutherland, Platform is uniquely tailored for music production and other creative endeavours. Key features include a bridge for studio monitors, 9U of rack space, sleek cable management, and an optional pull-out keyboard tray. Its clean, modern aesthetic makes for an eye-catching piece for any studio. The 9U of rack space is in three banks of 3U, giving you enough space to fill with Eurorack or 500-series modules as well.

The desk has a footprint of 60 x 36 x 36.5 inches and is sturdy enough to hold 120lbs (55kg) of equipment on the main part of the desk, 70lbs (32kg) of speakers and displays on the bridge, and a further 50lbs (22kg) on the keyboard tray — enough for an 88-key, hammer-action keyboard.

Starting at $549, Platform is constructed of 100% real wood (specifically birch) from renewable sources, available in Natural or hand-stained Kodiak Brown, made in a factory in Seattle, and ships within the US and Canada and later to major European countries.

Proceeds from every desk sold will be donated to musician and environmentalist, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s foundation, More Trees, to support their reforestation and carbon offset projects.
