British loudspeaker experts ATC have announced the launch of two new subwoofers that build on the success of the SCS70 Pro and its in-wall counterpart, the SCS70iW Pro. The SCS120 Pro and SCS120iW Pro both employ a newly developed 15-inch driver, and are capable of delivering deep, clean bass from 120Hz all the way down to below 20Hz.
The latest offerings achieve the extended low-frequency response not through the use of equalisation or DSP processing, and instead rely on the more traditional approach of increased cabinet volume and driver performance. ATC say that the simplistic method allows the latest subs to deliver a more balanced and coherent listening experience, whilst avoiding common pitfalls like increased phase shift and group delay.
Both new models are powered by a 300W Class-A/B amplifier, which features a footswitch-controlled mute function and is capable of being ‘daisy-chained’ for systems that require multiple subs. Balanced stereo line-level inputs are joined by balanced full-range outputs, and the design also includes forth-order Linkwitz-Riley filters with multiple crossover options (including an industry-standard 80Hz option) and a bypass setting for those leaving bass-management duties to external processors.
The SCS120iW Pro (in-wall) variant features the same overall specifications as the SCS120 Pro, but is optimised for flush in-wall mounting thanks to a shallower cabinet and a recessed rear input connector panel. It comes accompanied by a R1-300 Pro 7U rackmount amplifier that can be mounted close to the subwoofer, in a control room rack or hidden away in a machine room, with all the necessary connections made via NL4 speakON and 5-pin XLR cables.
The two new subwoofers offer a perfect match for ATC’s SCM100ASL Pro, SCM110ASL Pro and SCM150ASL Pro studio monitors, and also scale effortlessly to larger systems featuring the SCM200ASL Pro and SCM300ASL Pro.
