Following on from the recent release of Synchron Special Woodwinds, VSL have announced the launch of the library’s brass counterpart. Synchron Special Brass currently includes two instruments that have been captured on Stage a of the company’s Vienna Synchron Stage, and will be expanded to include a total of 11 over the course of 2025.
While the company’s existing Synchron offerings cover the core techniques, Synchron Special Brass has been created to deliver unique ‘colours’ and extended registers. A comprehensive set of articulations cover the likes of short and long notes, along with legatos, dynamics, trills, flutter tongues and repetitions, kitting users out with everything they need to create realistic-sounding film scores, fill out big-band arrangements, enhance contemporary pop productions and much more.
As with the previous release in the series, the new library benefits from VSL’s innovative Flow View, a new, easy-to-use GUI option that presents users with just the essential controls of each instrument while hiding away technical distractions. This makes it possible to simple play the library with minimal effort, while behind-the-scenes algorithms take care of articulation switching and expression controls. For those who want to delve deeper, the previous GUI of the Synchron Player is still available under the guise of Precision View.
Synchron Special Brass offers users a choice of VSL's new Flow View GUI, and the classic Synchron layout, which is now known as Precision View.
Included Instruments
At launch, the new library features Synchron Trumpet (Bb, muted) and Synchron Trumpet Ensemble (muted) patches, with the following instruments set for release later in 2025:
- Synchron Piccolo Trumpet
- Synchron Cornet
- Synchron Flugelhorn
- Synchron Bass Trumpet
- Synchron Wagner Tuba
- Synchron Wagner Tuba Ensemble
- Synchron Contrabass Trombone
- Synchron Euphonium
- Synchron Contrabass Tuba
As always, the library is available in Standard and Full versions, with the only difference being the amount of microphone positions available — the former includes four signals, while the latter boasts an additional three dedicated to surround and height microphones.

Synchron Special Brass runs in VSL’s Synchron Player, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 11 and higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
