Universal Audio have released two new large-diaphragm modelling microphones, the Sphere DLX and Sphere LX. Each of the models offer emulations of classic microphones from the likes of Neumann, AKG, Sony, Telefunken, and more, with a Dual Mode allowing blended combinations of two different microphones.

Both the DLX and LX feature IsoSphere technology which helps to reduce room colouration, and employ gold-sputtered diaphragms, with UA stating that they also achieve the lowest noise figures of any microphone in their class.

Sphere DLX

This is possible with any audio interface or DAW software, although users of Universal Audio’s Apollo interfaces have the additional benefit of being able to record or monitor through the models with near-zero latency thanks to the interface's on-board DSP.

The DLX also makes it possible to capture stereo recordings using a single microphone, whilst a selection of IsoSphere presets tailored for home studios offer an easy way to tame any colouration introduced by problematic acoustic spaces.

The microphone comes supplied in a carrying case with a shockmount, microphone stand mount, and an XLR cable.

Sphere LX

Despite the microphone featuring fewer models than the DLX the functionality remains the same; it is still possible to change models and polar patterns once a recording has taken place, and Apollo users will still benefit from the near-zero latency tracking functionality.

The Sphere LX comes supplied in a carrying case with a microphone stand mount and an XLR cable.

Pricing & Availability

Both microphones are available now worldwide. The Sphere DLX is priced at $1499€1649, and the Sphere LX at $999€1099.
