Wampler unleash the Cryptid Fuzz

New fuzz distortion pedal

Wampler Cryptid Fuzz

Wampler have introduced the Cryptid Fuzz, a highly flexible fuzz pedal designed to cover everything from smooth, vintage-style sustain to wild, glitchy chaos. Created by Brian Wampler, the Cryptid Fuzz isn't just a clone of classic circuits, it’s a brand-new design that is said to adapt to any player’s style, offering fuzz tones that range from refined and articulate to unpredictable and raw.

The Cryptid’s Character control (Bias knob) lets guitarists shape their fuzz tone with precision. Turning it down delivers warm, distortion-like sustain, while cranking it up results in sputtering, gated fuzz reminiscent of experimental circuits like the Fuzz Factory. The Chime switch offers three levels of harmonic sparkle, designed for clarity without excessive harshness, while the Tight switch tailors the low end, allowing for thick, heavy fuzz or a sharper, cutting attack that stands out in a mix.

Beyond its fuzz capabilities, the Cryptid is a dynamic pedal that reacts to a player's touch and guitar volume controls, cleaning up for glassy tones or driving hard when pushed. Unlike traditional fuzz circuits, it blends transistors, FETs along with an op-amp stage to create something unique, capable of everything from classic Fuzz Face and Big Muff-inspired tones to smooth overdrive and even clean boost settings.
