Following the announcement of the Chimera single-channel 'hybrid' preamp at the NAMM show in January (check out the SOS news item here), Sontronics had a more conventional two-channel device called the Sonora on show at the Frankfurt Musikmesse.
The Sonora is a small device that's got mic, line and instrument inputs, and balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs. The front panel has simple controls for each channel's gain, its pad, a high-pass filter and phantom power controls.
Inside, the Sonora uses a mixture of discrete and surface-mount components, to create what Sontronics say is a "sonic quality that people like to hear".
It will cost £399 including VAT in the UK, when it starts shipping in April.
