USB Pad Controller
New from Akai at Musikmesse was a USB Pad controller called the MPD18, a replacement for the now discontinued MPD16.
It’s got the same 16 pads and controls as its predecessor, but there’s an extra pad bank, so the user can access a total of 48 different samples or notes directly from the device.
Another alteration is the removal of the MIDI port and external power supply input, leaving the USB port (which also provides power for the device) as the only method of connection to the unit. The MPD18 comes bundled with a copy of Ableton Live Lite and should be shipping in June.
