ADAM Audio have announced a new range of monitors: the AX series. Replacing the popular A-series speakers, the new line up comprises the A3X, A5X, A7X and A8X, which house 4.5-, 5.5-, 7- and 8.5-inch woofers, respectively. All models in the range have been endowed with the same X-ART ribbon tweeter used in ADAM’s SX monitors, and the makers say that this extends the speakers’ high-frequency response to a dog-bothering 50kHz.
The LF drivers in the new models have also undergone some improvements, most notably a larger voice coil, which apparently increases the cone’s linear excursion and, consequently, the speakers’ maximum output level.
All of the new AX monitors are bi-amplified, with a 25W Class-AB amp serving the tweeter, and a Class-D (PWM) amp powering the woofer, with LF amplifier power ratings ranging from 25W for the A3X, to 150W for the A8X.
ADAM also say that the twin-ported cabinets have been completely redesigned, with all models in the range featuring bevelled corners to minimise edge diffraction.
As with the A series, a pair of AX speakers can be linked with an RCA phono cable, allowing you to control your monitoring level using the volume control on just one of the speakers.
The new AX-series monitors are priced at £499, £679, £949 and £1249 for the A3X, A5X, A7X and A8X, respectively.
