SSL have added to their X-Rack range of modular audio processors two new modules, taken from the original SL611E channel strip found in the 'E' series consoles.
The SSL E Series EQ Module for X-Rack, or XR425 as it's called by SSL, has four filter bands. Featured are both 'brown knob' and 'black knob' filter curves, giving the user multiple filter response options. According to SSL, the new EQ module is now the only currently available unit featuring 'brown knob' EQ, after the discontinuation of the E Signature Channel Strip.
The E Series Dynamics Module (XR418) has compressor and gate/expander sections, each with dedicated controls. Internal circuitry is apparently as close as possible to the original (like-for-like components are no longer available), although SSL say that they've used ICs "identical to the Class A VCA chip used in the original unit".
The new modules will be shipping before the end of October, at a cost of £547 each in the UK. For further details, check out the SSL web site.
