M Audio produce eight-channel preamp with digital output

The Octane from M Audio

M Audio are bringing out a new eight-channel microphone preamp, the Octane, which features a built-in M&S (Middle and Sides) decoder and eight-channel ADAT digital output.
Each channel has balanced XLR and TRS inputs and a balanced TRS output, an input level control, -20dB pad and three-segment LED level meter. Channels one and two also feature an unbalanced instrument input and channel one is equipped with a low-cut rumble filter at 80Hz.
Phantom power is separately switchable for channels one to four and five to eight, and every second channel features a phase-reverse switch. Channels seven and eight can be switched to accept an M&S stereo signal and are accompanied by a stereo width control.
The Octane’s 24-bit optical ADAT output can be set to 44.1 or 48kHz, and word-clock connectors allow the unit to act as master or to slave to an external sync source, ranging from 33 to 59kHz.
The M Audio Octane is available now, priced at £499 inc VAT.
