Klevgrand’s latest offering is said to be their most experimental plug-in to date, and promises to take users “down a rabbit hole of rhythmic exploration and creative accidents”. Parrot creates rhythmic patterns by sampling small slices of incoming audio and then repeating them in a sequenced loop, and is capable of creating anything from subtle beat variations to all-out glitched mayhem.
Captured audio is laid out in the plug-in’s step sequencer-style interface, with each step kitted out with its own independent set of pitch and accent controls. Sequences can be locked to a DAW’s tempo or left to free-run, and users are given control over the likes of fade in/out times and note values — a Variation control forces the sequencer to use random note, offset and direction values for each step, and there’s a Humanize parameter that’s designed to add some more natural-sounding timing variations.
In addition to its sequencing capabilities, Parrot comes loaded with a collection of onboard effects and sound-design tools. There are pan and volume controls that can be tied to the sequencer steps in order to create rhythmic panning and level-based effects, along with a synth-style resonant filter and a dedicated filter for processing just the incoming dry signal. Klevgrand have also included a healthy selection of presets that demonstrate what the plug-in is capable of and provide a handy starting point for new users.
